British Virgin Islands business pioneer J.R. O’Neal (1911-2005) started his pharmacy business in Road Town, Tortola in 1937. From there he expanded into many other areas such as building materials and shipping. In 1967, he made his first venture into commercial real estate with the construction of the first of its kind multi-storey J.R. O’Neal Building on Main Street. Other ventures followed, including the development of Port Purcell in the early 1970s.
J.R. O’Neal continued to invest in real estate for the next 30 years, building retail, warehouse and other facilities in Road Town. In the 1980s, he established JOMA (Properties) Ltd. to own, develop and manage real estate property.
In 2012 JOMA celebrates 75 years of business enterprise by the O’Neal family – a journey that has seen the enterprise grow from pharmacy, building materials, shipping, and real estate development and management.
